Sunday was another day of clear, fairly warm weather. But there was a huge high parked just north of the racecourse. We had a lengthy delay, then finally the race committee started a race in some sickly, 4-knot breeze. I had the brilliant idea of starting on port and crossing the fleet. A decent fraction of the rest of the fleet had the same idea. We got hit (no damage, no injuries), got protested (and protested the hitter), and to top it off we were over early. It was ugly.
We re-crossed the line about four minutes later in last place. We had a decent beat, passing three boats. But Bye Bye Blues slipped inside us just after the windward mark. And we lost Eagle on the run. The course was shortened and we limped across the finish line sixth of seven. The boat that hit us dropped their protest (they came in first, what was there to prove?) We dropped their protest against them (I was only 80% sure of prevailing).
We motored back to the club to drink some foamy beer. At least the lawn party was nice.
